What are late night snacks?

“A wedding late-night snack is a light meal or treat served after the main dinner reception, typically around 9 to 11 p.m., to keep guests energized and happy as the evening progresses” - Google

Do you Need a Late Night Snack?

No, you definitely do not need to have a late night snack. Most of the time, your desserts can be enough to fill your guests up throughout the night. But, let’s look at the situation this way. Just think about how you’d feel after 4x vodka lemonades and 2x lemon drop shots and an hour of dancing. I’m sure at that point, you’d like a greasy slice of pizza or some McDonalds before the night ends, whether its because you have the munchies, or you’d like to sober up a bit before heading home. Your guests are the same way! By serving a late night snack, you’re giving the people what they want.

Are Your Desserts Enough?

While most of the time, the desserts you serve during the reception can be enough to fill your guests up, most people would rather have another food option that isn’t a sweet treat after a night of dancing and drinking.

When to Serve Late Night Snacks?

The best time to serve your late night snacks is an hour or so after your dinner, during the dancing. Most couples choose to plate their late night snacks around 9pm or 10pm, since most venues close their doors at 11pm. This gives guests plenty of time to get some dancing in, before they take a break for their late night snack.

The goal of serving late night snacks is simple: To help energize your guests, and to help soak up some alcohol before they go home. While you can really serve whatever you want for a late night snack, most couples opt to choose food items that can easily be held, walked around with, and eaten while doing the cha cha slide on the dance floor. With that being said, most of these late night snack options are finger foods. While I have seen couples do Ramen Noodle bars (Yes, we microwave cups of ramen noodles for guests) and other snack options, it’s a bit impracticle because guests need to sit and be careful not to spill on themselves, which can be hard after 3x fireball shots at the bar. So, here’s a list of some of my favorite late night snack options.

Easy & Affordable Options

Easy to carry around and munch on throughout the night, get a few disposable cups filled with charcuterie!

Think popsicles, but delicious waffles with hot chocolate, whip cream, and sprinkles!

S’Mores

Whatever you decide to do for your late night snack, I’m sure your guests will love it! If you have a hard time deciding what to do, listen to your drunk aletr ego, what do YOU like to munch on after a night of drinking and partying? What’s your Taco bell order at 2am in the drive through? It might help you decide on what the best snack option will be, if you reflect back on yourself ;)
