10 Spring Wedding Ideas

Spring weddings are truly something special, but how do you even begin planning a spring wedding? What color scheme should you use? What decor should you use? While most of those questions are completely up to you as a couple, I'm here to walk you through some spring wedding ideas to show you what other couples have done, and what you can do to make your spring time wedding stand out, and stay true to the theme.

1.) Have Your Florals Give off Spring Vibes

Your florals will be in 90% of your wedding photos, so by including spring themed florals that match your color scheme, you're ensuring that every photo you take matches your theme. But how do you ensure your florals give off a spring time vibe? You can either include spring colors like pastels, ivory, and sage, OR you can use spring inspired florals like daffodils, tulips, and even hydrangeas. You can include your florals in your bridal and bridesmaid bouquets, in the groom and groomsmen boutonnieres, in your centerpieces, or even in your ceremony floral arrangements. The easiest way to ensure your floral give off the spring vibe you're looking for, is to talk to your florist. By explaining to them your vision, you're ensuring that your florist understands the assignment and will help to create stunning arrangements that fit your theme! One thing I always reccommend to couples when it comes to picking florals, is to create a moodboard using Pinterest. Go onto Pinterest and save photos of florals and bouquets that you like. That way when you meet with your florist, you can show them exactly what you're going for, rather than just explaining it to them. Tell your florist the colors you're looking for, what types of flowers you like, as well as any other descriptions you can think of like loose bouquets or tight arrangements. The more descriptions you can give to your florist, the better!

2.) Hire a Photographer That Matches Your Vision

More than likely, you're not going to want a dark and moody photographer for your wedding, but rather a light and airy one. Light and airy photographers are able to show off ALL the pretty spring time colors. By hiring a photographer that specializes in the theme of photos you’re going for, you're ensuring that the vision you have for your big day is transitioned to every aspect of your wedding. Afterall, after the wedding, all you'll have to remember the day are your photos and possibly even a video. You won't want to look back on your spring themed wedding and see photos that don't match your theme, right? Imagine if this photo was taken by a photographer that specializes in dark and moody work; it wouldn't match the couples vision at all! However, you don't NEED a light and airy photographer for your wedding, you should pick a photographer who's work you love! Regardless if that's a true and rich color photographer, light and airy, or a dark and moody one. However, you'll want to make sure you relay your photography vision to your photographer before you book, so they can help you decide if they'll be the right fir for your wedding or not.

3.) Your Color Scheme Matters

You can pick whatever color scheme you want! But if you're aiming for a spring themed wedding, you'll want to stick with pastel color schemes that are light and airy, shades of pinks, even hushed greens and blues. By picking a color scheme that will match your spring wedding vibes, your ensuring that all your photos will match with your theme. To include your color in your wedding, you can have it match your florals, bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen suits, your table decor, and even your wedding invitations. This helps ensure that all your wedding details match, and are consistent throughout all your photos.

If you're having trouble picking a color scheme you like, check out Pinterest! There are a ton of color scheme ideas on there that can help you get started. Whatever you decide to pick though, make sure it represents you as a couple. For example, you're not going to pick a color scheme with black if thats not a color you like. More than likely, you'd go for a color scheme that includes colors you use often, like this bride did. Keep in mind, your wedding photos will be hung all over your home, so you'll want the color scheme to match your home decor too.

4.) Giving Off Garden Vibes

I don’t know about you, but when I think of spring, I picture all the fresh flowers blooming. So by incorporating lots of florals, you’re ensuring that you truly feel like your big day is a spring time wedding. But do you HAVE to include lots of florals for a spring wedding? Absolutely not! Even by having your wedding ceremony outside surrounded by nature and all the fresh blooms, that still gives off the vibes of a garden wedding. This couple for example opted for the best of both worlds, and decided to have their ceremony outside in front of a gorgeous hillside view, while also adding in some stunning free standing floral arrangements as their ceremony arbor. After their ceremony, we took the free standing floral arrangements and added them to the couples reception decor in front of their greenery wall for guests to use as a photo backdrop.

5.) Taking Advantage of Being Outside

If the weather is nice, take advantage of it! You can opt to have your ceremony outside, cocktail hour outside, even your dance hour outside like this couple! Most guests like to be outside anyways when the weather is nice, so by having your dance our out on the patio, you’re ensuring everyone gets to join in on the fun! Even if you don’t want to have your dance hour outside, you can still have other elements outdoors. You can place yard games for your guests to play out on the patio, or have some lounge areas setup and an outdoor bar.

6.) Picking the Right Venue

While everyone wants an outdoor ceremony, sometimes weather in the spring time can be unpredictable. That’s why it’s important to choose a venue with outdoor and indoor ceremony options; Because nothing is worse than planning an outdoor wedding, just to have it rain on your big day and you don’t have a plan B. If you are lucky enough to have your ceremony outside, it really does create some of the most stunning photos! Don’t forget to take your arbor into consideration though! By adding flowers or even a sheer fabric swag like this couple, you’re ensuring your springtime wedding vision is incorporated into all aspects of your wedding day. Even if you can’t have your wedding outside, adding a backdrop with flowers or other spring elements helps transfer your theme inside.

7.) All About That Decor

Spring wedding decor is truly stunning! But how do you go about planning what to use? First, start with your color scheme. What colors do you want to show on your guest tables and in your floral? Second, look into the types of decor you like (Pinterest can help with this!). Do you like the look of bud vases? Pillar candles mixed with greenery? Full floral compotes on each table? There are so many options that it can start to get overwhelming! But the good news is, spring wedding decor can be very minimal, and still look beautiful. When I think of a spring wedding, my mind goes straight to the tv show Bridgerton, with all the stunning pastel florals, vintage looks, and elegant feels to the most simplest of things. If you’re looking for some Bridgerton inspired wedding day decor, take a peek at the ‘Elizabeth Styled Shoot’ on my blog.

9.) Having Your Food Match

Most people don’t realize it, but you can incorporate your theme into your food too! You can choose to do spring inspired appetizers like charcuterie, caprese skewers, or even veggie spring rolls. You can even opt to do spring themed entrees like seasonal veggies, a light salad, and salmon en croute. Or my personal favorite, spring inspired desserts! Some of my favorite spring desserts include strawberry shortcake, parfaits, or carrot cake. This bride however, decided not only to include spring inspired foods, but to have a spring themed wedding cake! She had her baker add all the floral elements to her cake in her color scheme, and it was a huge hit!

10.) Incorporating Your Vision Into Your Stationary

Your invitations and other stationary set the tone for your wedding theme. This couple for example, decided to stick with their spring theme even for their invitations, which when it came time to take their detail shots on the wedding day, made everything tie in perfectly! Afterall, you're not going to have a rustic themed wedding and not have your invitations match the theme, right?! That's like having a woodsy outdoor wedding theme, but sending out ivory with gold accented luxory invites like these; that wouldn't match at all! So why not incorporate your spring theme into your invites? This is also a great opportunity to incorporate your color scheme! If you get stuck when creating your invites, check out Pinterest for some cool springtime inspired stationary, it'll really help you to see all your options and pick out a color scheme/theme that will help to match your vision.
